Dr. Im is a structural biologist specializing in the structure and function of membrane proteins. He employs state-of-the-art structural biology approaches to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of GPCRs and transporters. Through these studies, he aims to understand the regulatory mechanisms of synaptic terminals mediated by membrane proteins.
Dr. Im’s research program aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of membrane proteins, particularly G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs) and transporters. By integrating advanced structural and functional analyses, his laboratory seeks to uncover the molecular principles governing membrane protein regulation and to translate high-resolution structural insights into rational drug discovery strategies. The laboratory employs the following approaches:
Dr. Im is committed to training the next generation of structural biologists. He teaches courses in structural biology, protein biochemistry, and biophysics.
