When he was a junior high school student, he got interested in soul music. He listened to radio programs with excitement, and then, he taped and listened to them many times.

He had played baseball since his early days. However, he entered Shizuoka Shogyo High School which had a strong baseball club, but when he was seventeen years old, he decided to leave the club because he wanted to be a singer in earnest.

In 1981, he moved to Tokyo to go to Komazawa University, and he started to make songs as a member of the band "Hottentot". They held concerts mainly at a live house, and he won the best vocal prize at the contest "East West" in 1982. Then, in 1985 he contracted to make his debut with Kitty Music Company.

His first single "Shitsuino Down Town" influenced the Japanese music scene strongly. In those days, black music was not popular with many people in Japan, however, his songs got them crazy about it. Then, he started to composed all of his own songs since his third album "Such A Funky Thang". Since that time, he had gone to U.S.A. frequently, and then, in the fall of 1994, he moved to N.Y.
