Tsurutaro Kataoka began to study under Tsuruhachi Kataoka after graduating from high school. In three years, he became independent and appeared on the stage of "Toho Meijinnkai" and "Asakusa Engekijo".
When he was twenty-three years old, he appeared for the first time on TV. After that he became popular for the TV program; "Oretachi Hyoukin-zoku" (Fuji Television Co.). First he mainly appeared on the variety shows, and later, he started to appear in dramas.
At the age of thirty-three, he had got the professional boxing license. In the same year, the movie "Ijintachi no Natsu"(Shochiku Movie Co.), which was his first movie, became popular. He won many prizes which made his position as an actor certain.
He had strong interest in "Suibokuga"(The Indian Drawing) when he was forty years old. In December 1995, he held a private exhibition for the first time. Since then he has often held them. So now he has become Suibokuga artist as well. He is a person of varied attainments.
