Famous People in Japan

Iwamoto Yuji

Date of Birth 8 April 1962
Place of Birth Tomakomai, Hokkaido

If you have ever watched an ice hockey game you know it is one of the most exciting sports. Although you might not know many ice hockey players in Japan, I know one of the greatest. His name is Yuji Iwamoto. He is sometimes called Mr. Yukijirushi because he was a leading member of Yukijirushi's pro hockey team.

He started ice hockey when he was ten years old and joined Japan's professional league after graduating from high school. Playing as a star forward, Iwamoto's career is amazing. He played in over 600 games, making him the "Ironman" and most active player in Japan's ice hockey league. With over 232 goals, he also remains among the league's leading scorers.

Iwamoto achieved these great results through many things including good health care, image training, hard practice and stretching. He shared these lessons with younger members as a playing coach of the team before his retirement in 2001.

Although the Yukijirushi team was disbanded, the efforts and achievements of Yuji Iwamoto will never be forgotten.
