   My name is Masashi WAKAMATSU.

   I was born in Kanazawa 1963.   I graduated and did my graduate work

in Japanese history at Tohoku University.

   I am now a professor of the department of intercultural studies,

faculty of cultural studies, Kyoto Sangyo University.

   I study Japanese foreign relations in the Edo period, focusing on 

the city of Nagasaki.  Topics I have written on include the foreign 

trade at Nagasaki, the structure of Nagasaki as a foreign trading city,

Japan's foreign trade and its links to the domestic economy.   Despite

my interests in foreign trade, I am not so good at foreign languages.^^;)

    Recently, I have become interested in the regional differences and 

characteristics throughout Japan.
