A Day Reminiscing in Frankfurt

23 Cronstetten Strasse

The house looks the same except that it now has been divided into three apartments. This photo is a composite of two separate photos. Note the slight difference in color at the top.

This is a side view of the house taken from the neighbor's gate.

The street looked just as it did some thirty years ago except for a huge increase in the number of cars. Now they double park on both sides, one on the sidewalk, and one on the street. (It used to be forbidden to have all 4 wheels on the sidewalk. No more!)

St. Sebastian's Church

Again, the appearance has little changed except for the new entrance doors. The building seems to be abandoned now, although the sign outside still advertises mass on Sundays.

The Kaufhof

This is the main department store down on the Zeil. The street itself is now a pedestrian paradise. The street running up the middle of the photo, with the Kaufhof on the right side is the street that runs up to where the PX used to be. The streetcar tracks are gone, replaced by a subway underneath the road that follows the same route.

The Hauptwache

This is on the other side of the plaza from the Kaufhof, still virtually unchanged. Note the 'S and 'U' on the sign which indicate the entrance to the underground railway ('S-bahn') and subway 'U- bahn')
