Takanohana is the youngest Yokozuna. He is 185 centimeters and his weight is 160 kilograms. After he graduated from junior high school, he took a test and became a sumo wrestler.
His first appearance was Haru-basho on March, 1988. He is good at "Migi-yottsu" and "Yori". He belongs to Futagoyama-beya. His father Hanada Mitsuru is Oyakata, an elder in the sumo world and fought under the name of Takanohana. His grandfather was also a sumo wrestler. His brother, Wakanohana is also a sumo wrestler now and is also a Yokozuna.
He married Kohno Keiko who was a Fuji-TV announcer. Takanohana and Wakanohana have helped revive sumo as a popular Japanese sport.
