Shimizu Hiroyasu is a great skater. He was born in Obihiro and started to skate when he was four years old. He was coached by his father and did very hard training. He had many impressive results before his debut in the World Cup at Bazerudipine. He won in his first appearance with a personal best record. He has achieved many records since then. Shimizu won a gold medal in the Nagano Olympic Games despite being the shortest participant.
Although he was in bad condition, he also got a silver medal in the Salt Lake City Olympic Games. His efforts have made an impression on all of Japan. He is now beginning to train for the Turin Olympic Games to be held in four years.
