Misia

Misia is a representative R&B singer in Japan. Her debut was so shocking to young people who love R&B music because there were not so many singers whose voices had a wide range like her. She is a "Five Octave Girl".

It was at the age of nine when she decided to become a singer. Her parents had her take singing lessons, and she left home to study singing from a black vocal trainer in Fukuoka when she was in Junior High School.

She also belonged to a brassband club when she was a student. She established a "Vocal part" by herself though it was abolished soon!

It was after many failures in auditions that she made her debut as a singer. The music company "BMG JAPAN" offered an audition to her, and she succeeded in passing it at last. That was in May 1997. Her name "Misia" came from parodying her real name at that time. It means "Asian Soul".

After she won the Japan Gold Disk Grand Prize for New Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year, she became more and more active. For example, she is active as a DJ and an essayist. She even appears on a commercial of MD disks.

By the way, she is an ordinary girl as well as a great singer. She is good at making Japanese sweets and poor at dancing! In addition, she is a student of Seinan Gakuin university though she is taking time off from school now. She is majoring in Commercial Science at her university.

Thus, she has it in her t o be a great singer though she doesn't have so much experience. We can also expect her to be one the top of divas in Japan in the near future.
