Mifune Toshiro

Mifune was born and brought up in China. He went to Dairen school.

1946 he entered the company of Touhou. In1947 he made his debut in Shinbakajidai (New Stupid Era). In Ginrei no Hate (Beyond The Silvery Mountain) he became known among the film fan. In Yoidore Tenshi (Drunken Angel) which was directed by Akira Kurosawa, he appeared on the Kurosawa's movie for the first time and attracted the fan's attention. Since that time he appeared in almost all of the films which Kurosawa directed. His personal technique is manly and heroic. He is the best Samurai actor.

The following are his most important works. Rashoumon which won the grand prize in Venice International Movie Festival 1951, Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurais) which impressed and influenced many directors who are popular and famous today, Kumonosujou (The Spider's Web Castle), Youjinbou, Tsubaki Sanjuro, Akahige which he won the best actor prize in Venice International Festival 1965, Miyamoto Musashi, Muhoumatsu no Isshou (The Life of Muhoumatsu), Samurai, Furinkazan. He appeared even on foreign films, Grand Prix (Grand Prize), Taiheiyou no Jigoku (Inferno of The Pacific Ocean), Red Sun, Shougun.

In 1966 he founded Mifune Production which produces movies independently and manages personalities. In 1994 he played the old man who was injured in the war in Fukai Kawa (Deep River).
