Temple bells There are "bell" in Japanese temples called "kane" or "Tsurigane".

The temple bells transmitted to Japan from China along with Buddhism a long time ago. They were made by bronze or iron. They are about a five feet high in general. And the oldest bell is in Kyoto, in Myoshin Temple.

Temple bells are rung in early morning and evening by priest at the appointed hour every day. It is a kind of the custum which has come down to us from our ancestors.

Especially, "Jyoya no kane" is very famous. At the end of the year priests ring bell 108 times. Japanese think people have 108 desires in their mind and we can get rid of these desires before next year coming.
