In Japan, "Saodake" means "Bamboo pole".

Traditionally in Japan, we use "Saodake" to hang up the washing. And there is a job to sell "Saodake" in Japan.

They go to the street to sell it and call "Saodake !! Saodake !!" again and again. It's a really traditional style, and now we can seldom see a man selling "Saodake" in the street.

Old Japanese people often use "Bamboo" in their life suchas "Saodake"
For example, they use it for "broom sticks" to whip tea or to make baskets and so on.
So, we have many bamboo articles in our life. We have not only "Bamboo pole" or "Bamboo broom" but "Bamboo curtains" ("Sudare").

And also, we call a man of frank disposition "A man who split bamboo"
That is why, "Bamboo" is very important in Japanese life.
